REVIEW: Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

I have been having this Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette for a while now, but I don’t know why I haven’t posted the review yet. Oh well, but it’s better now than never right? I decided to finale posting this review, because I’d like to recommend this Naked 2 palette to my Indonesian readers.  If you want to get yourself Urban Decay Naked Palette, but you are not sure of which palette to get, I am recommending this one to you, because as the Sephora Singapore’s Beauty Advisor recommended to me, this palette matches our skin tone best.

THE BRAND

Urban Decay is an American Cosmetic Brand basing in California. It’s a subsidiary of French Cosmetic Company,  L’Oréal. It’s all started back in the mid-1990s when pink, red and beige tones dominated the beauty market. Challenging the trend, together with her co-conspirators, Wende Zomnir released a line of lipsticks and nail enamels with groundbreaking shades like Smog, Rust, oil Slick and Acid Rain, inspired by seedier facet of the urban landscape.

In 2009, Urband Decay received approval by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics, and awared by PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals) with the fifth annual Best Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Line award; and in 2014, they are certified by The Leaping Bunny Program (CCIC) as cruelty-free.

Now, Urban Decay Cosmetics are sold world wide as high-end brand.

URBAN DECAY NAKED 2 PALETTE

Through their Naked Palette series, UD has successfully proven that  neutral shades are not as boring as some people think. From bronze to Taupe, Rose to Smoky, Matte to Shimmer and everything in between; UD have them all.

As mentioned above, I was buying this palette because of the Sephora Singapore BA’s advise. I was initially meaning to get myself the original Naked Palette, but then the Urban Naked Smokey came out and I got even more confused of which palette to get. After a long consideration, I finale bought this Urban Decay Naked 2 palette instead, and found the advise was right.

So, here is my thoughts of the palette:

FORMULA

• It has a velvety-powdery formula
• Some shades has drier formula than the others
• A few shades contains glitter chuncks that easily fall out
• Easy to blend
• Easy to apply
• Easily picked up by makeup brush
• The shades are more into a warm-toned neutral outlay
• The shadows are last long even without primer

THE URBAN DECAY NAKED 2 PALETTE SHADES

Foxy – Matte pale yellowed beige. The formula feels a little bit more powdery. Since it matches well with my skin-tone, therefore it’s very hard to see.  So, I think, I will use this shade as base after eye primer to give a smooth surface for other shades layered above.

Half Baked – A copery brown shade containing golden shimmer-sheen with metallic finish. It has good color payoff and smooth texture. I like to use this shade for the lid, both alone and for smokey eyes.

Booty Call – It’s a white-beige shade with satin finish. Since it’s quite sheer, I like to use it as highlighter under the brow and inner corner.

Chopper – Mettalic Rose Gold shade with flecks of silver micro glitters. I am highly suggesting you to use shadow shield when applying this shade. It’s because the sparkle is prone to fall out.

Tease – Dirty mauve-brown shade with a matte finish. To be honest, I’m in a love and hate relationship with this shade, since it’s my go-to-shade for transition color; yet, it has a mediocre color payoff, and the texture is quite dry.

Snakebite – Bronzy brown shade with golden shimmer sheen. It has buttery texture and excellent color payoff. This is one of my favorite shade from the palette.

Suspect – Soft Champagne shade with frosted-metallic sheen. The payoff is not bad, but it’s quite sheer for me. I need to build a few layers to get the desired intensity. The formula for this one is quite powdery.

Pistol – It’s a warm steel grey shade with satin finish. In compared with the other shades, Pistol has not only a good color payoff, but it also has a smooth texture.

Verve – Slightly pinky-Pale Beige-grey shade with frosty finish.

YDK – Warm coppery brown with frosted finish, containing micro glitters . Just like Pistol, YDK has a good color payoff and smooth texture.

Busted – Deep burgundy-brown shade with a soft frosted finish. Though the shade is a little bit dense than the others, Busted has a good color payoff  and smooth texture.

Blackout – Very intense deep dark black with matte finish.

THE LOOKS

Here I tried to create 2 looks: Day & Night look using this Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette.

FRESH NATURAL DAY LOOK

PS: I use the Blackout as eyeliner on the Fresh Natural Day Look instead of using eyeliner, because I find it making the look looks more natural; perfect for no makeup makeup look like this.

THE PACKAGING

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette has different packaging with Urban Decay Naked Palette. If the original palette came in a sturdy cardboard packaging, the UD Naked 2 Palette comes in a tin packaging with a full-length mirror. Another differentiation is the brush. UD Naked Palette came with a single flat brush; the UD Naked 2 Palette comes with a dual-ended synthetic brush – a rounded blending brush end and a flat brush end. I think it’s very thoughtful of them. It will be the best travel friendly palette, except for the size. I can’t complain about it though, because it is loaded with amazing 12 day-to-night shades.
