REVIEW: Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss

Hello, today I am back with another lippies review. Hopefully you are not bored with it, since I am a lipstick junkie. LOL! So, I know that Matte Lipstick is the hype now, and everyone is talking and goes crazy about it. Whether it’s in the form of tube lipstick, liquid lipstick or cream lipstick;  whether they are local brand or international brand; they are all in the matte or semi-matte formula. Therefore, I decided to share something different today. Here, I present you the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Plexi-Gloss.

I know it’s not the newest product launched by MUFE, and it has been shared by some Indonesian Beauty Bloggers sometimes ago, but why not bringing it back?

The Brand

Who does not know MAKE UP FOR EVER? It’s a multifaceted brand that touches on every facet of professional make up: cinema, TV, theater, opera, dance, concerts, street shows, drag artists and more. You can say every field finds a response adapted to its needs. Basically, MAKE UP FOR EVER is a reference for professionals; yet, MUFE has also found themselves in the favor of the public.

The Product

Unlike other lip gloss, MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Plexi-Gloss is formulated with vivid colors and stunning shine. Its pigments are packed with Plexi Color Technology that let the color the deliver maximum shine beads reflect. For the finish result, MAKE UP FOR EVER offers wide array ranges of finish from pearly and non-pearly finishes to sheer and opaque colors. As for the longevity, according to their claim on their website, the Plexi-Gloss supposes to last up to five hours.

In regards with the wand, it’s an exclusive artist-designed superflex applicators, featuring a lip-hugging shape that allows for precision and control, and the super-loaded split-tip has a unique contour to sweep on the ideal amount of lip gloss.

My Experience

Please kindly remember that everyone has different kind of experience with makeup products for various reasons. Therefore, my  experience may be different with other reviewers, especially with those who live on other countries. I tested this Plexi-Gloss under Indonesian hot and humid Tropical weather, and using it to eat Indonesian local food & Chinese foods which are more oily than the most oily Western Food.

From my experience, I found the Formula:

• Very Pigmented for lip gloss, except for certain shades that means to be transparent
• It has a thick liquid texture
• Has sticky texture when first applied, but is still tolerable as long as you don’t apply too much layer of the gloss.
• It takes time to dry. If you apply it too thick, it will take longer to settle
• It is not moisturizing the lips, but is not drying the lips
• The shade is build-able – I suggest to apply 2 coat for better result
• It’s a little bit tricky to get the shades applied evenly
• Smooth finish, but in the sense you have a clean lips. So, make sure to exfoliate your lips first before applying this Plexi-Gloss.
• Transferable when you use it to drink or eat

I have to admit that I am in love with the pigmentation. Through this Plexi-Gloss, MAKE UP FOR EVER has successfully transformed my lip gloss experience, and leads me to reconsider using lip gloss again. You may find it weird, but although I am a beauty blogger and makeup artist, but I personally do not like lip gloss and hardly use it. I have a few lip gloss, but those are not for me. I bought them for my clients. If I want to get a more shiny finish, I will use the creamy lipstick or normal liquid lipstick rather than using lip gloss. It’s because I don’t like the sticky texture that I got from using lip gloss. Plus, it does not give any colors to the lips at all no matter how much layer you build. So, pigmentation is the main reason why I consider this lip gloss into count.

The Shades

MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Plexi-Gloss is available in 35 shades. From Nudes, Pink, Fuchsia, Red, Blue, even Black Shade, they have it all. From the 35 shades, I own 4:

• 301P – Nude Coral
• 101 – Nude Beige
• 207 – Candy Pink
• 304 – Red Coral

I was first intimidated by the shades. They all look very vibrant for a lip gloss. Since I was curious, then, I searched the swatches on the internet, and they all looked wearable. Hence, I decided to get them to proof that it was not as intimidating as it looked on the tube. In short, as you can see from the pictures below, it turned out the shades are really wearable.

The shades can be worn alone or with a penciliner or matte lipstick. Here I used penciliner that matches my natural lips color best to do the lip swatches. The lip liner helps to intensify the shades to be bolder. For glosses like Candy Pink and Red Coral, I prefer to use them alone for day look. On the other hand, the Nude shades, it will look like normal glosses without lip liner, yet it looks more glossy than normal glosses. Here are how it looks on me:

Among 4 shades I owned, my favorit is the Red Coral. It is wearable for both day and night look. It makes me looks bright and fresh. You may not notice it, but I have been feeling not well for the past few days, thanks to the power of makeup! Hahaha…

Application tips:

• Scrub your lips first to lift up all the dead skin, leaving the lips clean and smooth.
• Use lips liner that match your lips shade best. This will help enhancing the shade of the lip gloss later.

The Packaging

It comes in clear plastic packaging with black lid. On both sides, MUFE printed their trademark, letter MAKE UP FOR EVER on the black lid and MUFE logo on the clear tube. Since it’s clear, hence, you can see the shades directly.

As for the applicator, the wand comes with a flexible point. Instead of doe-feet design which you can normally find from other, the Plexi-Gloss comes with a superflex applicator, which matches the shapes of our lips, helping the application to be easier.
